The firm was originally founded as 'Whitfield and Sons' in 1862 by Mr. Thomas Whitfield. Based in Oswestry, the practice became one of the most successful firms of Auctioneers and Valuers across the Border Counties, Mid and North Wales. In 1933, Mr. W. A. Bowen joined the business and became the Sole Proprietor in 1937 before joining The Admiralty shortly after the outbreak of World War II.

I only sat outside and had a pint. Beer was good, views are spectacular and garden well organised and lush. Carpark dusty and small and, mostly because of the busy main road and the dip in the road, it is a difficult place to pull out or to wait to pull into. This pub has a lot going for it, especially the outdoor dining and large wetweather shelter. I will try to visit again soon and have a meal for a better and fuller experience of the venue.
