Spencer Birch is one of the leading independent firms of chartered surveyors working within the City of Nottingham and the Greater Nottingham area. Spencer Birch was formed in 1984 offering residential and commercial surveying and estate agency services. Based on offering clients good solid practical advice the firm has expanded over the years into a successful partnership of qualified surveyors. The firm still maintains its original philosophy, that the client's objectives are paramount and fees must be competitive.
Services
Spencer Birch offers a wide range of rental properties within the city and surrounding areas of Nottingham, from a 1 bedroom flat to 6 bedroom family home. We can help you find the property you are looking for, which will perfectly fit your housing requirements. Company relocation or moving into Nottingham from abroad we will have the property to suit.
There can be few better places to be a student than in Nottingham. The opportunities and adventures that can be had in one of Europe's most exciting and fashionable cities are only limited by your imagination. From the bars and swinging nightlife of Hockley to the city centre restaurants, theatres, cinemas and pubs.
Buying a house is probably the most expensive purchase a person is likely to make, therefore it is important to obtain a full report on the condition of the property. In all cases, the condition is commented upon along with any major repairs and any minor repairs which can be done on a piecemeal basis once you have moved in.
Rates are of critical importance to all business occupiers. Rate payments represent a significant proportion of a business' overheads which need to be checked and kept to a minimum wherever possible. The review system is often complex and requires an understanding of the review format coupled with knowledge of the area.

2 Years well spent! I had no problems with Spencer Birch, very quick correspondence and good customer service. Any time I needed the handy man, they would have him sent over as soon as he was available. The property was in a good conditon when I first entered (sept 2016) and I saw to it that I left it just as good when my tenancy was over and so I got my deposit back with no issue. Would definately rent from these guys again :)

***Update*** Recent five star reviews are false! AVOID this company at all costs, you will NEVER get your deposit back, if you get your house professionally cleaned - no deposit, if you re-paint the damp marks in the house (after calling for days to no avail to get it fixed) - no deposit. ALL of the positive reviews they are all written by Spencer Birch staff. AWFUL UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY AVOID! ***UPDATE*** Spent 3 days cleaning the apartment and was told the flat was dirty and we wouldn't be getting our deposit.
No contact made with me after numerous calls and emails. Left for 3 months with no boiler and had to contact environmental health to force them to fix it. Awful, aggressive, DO NOT USE! Avoid!

I use Spencer Birch to rent my property in Nottingham. This is the first property I have rented and they have been extremely helpful in guiding me through the requirements and regulations. They are also very comprehensive and thorough in vetting potential tenants. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Acting as a trustee for a jointly owned commercial property in mixed use (retail and commercial/offices) I have used Spencer Birch as my managing agents over the last 25 years or more. The rents are collected in and on time and when re-lettings and/or refurbishments are required the firm has successfully managed theses aspect too. In an age when property professional services are increasingly provided by national and quoted companies where one wonders to whom they owe their first duty of care, the shareholders, the bonus driven staff or the poor old fashioned client Spencer Birch certainly remain focused on the client.

SCAM DO NOT USE THEM AT ANY COSTS - Spencer Birch are an awful company who are essentially crooks. My girlfriend was apprehensive to use Spencer Birch as they had ripped her off in the past after she had left her rented house spotless yet still wasn't given her deposit money back as it needed to pay for 'damages and cleaning'. Unfortunately, to our dismay a lovely apartment became available with them (the landlord of the new flat was apparently a family friend of the Spencer Birch owner) and we had no choice but to use them if we wanted the flat.
We were told that we were the only people to view the flat and there were no more viewings booked in until the following week. We therefore filled in our applications and paid our fees, excited to get it done and dusted. A few days later we received a phone call from Spencer Birch informing us that they'd given the flat to another couple as my reference from my previous landlord took a few days to come through and that the new landlord 'randomly' picked another couple as the landlord may have been put off by the fact that my girlfriend was a student and he feared she would not be able to pay the rent.
I spoke to my previous landlord who forwarded me the reference email and it had been sent the same day I sent my fees, meaning Spencer Birch sat and waited for others to view the flat and make offers (4 other couples filled in their application forms) just so they could charge everyone fees and not refund us. So after all the disappointment and heartache this incompetent company inflicted on us, they shockingly refused to give us our money back.

I don't know what criteria you have to have to rent a house from this company. My partners daughter recently went to view a house and was told she was the first person to show interest. She was told to bring in a reference, bank statements etc which she did, also she had the deposit ready to transfer only to be told there was now lots of interest. She was telephoned this week to say she hadn't been accepted. Thanks very much Chris Birch & co. John Barfield

We had a TERRIBLE student letting experience with Spencer Birch. From the very beginning certain staff members were blunt and unfriendly. The first day that we moved in, the house had not be cleaned down from the previous tenants. We actually met the cleaning lady who told us that she had only done a 5 min job. The blinds were filthy etc. We moved in to a nice house, but one with obvious inadequacies such as a Front and Back door that were not secure at all and could be kicked in with minimal force.
We also had a large mould probably in many rooms of the house, and our boilder was substandard and would barely pass the gas inspection. When we moved out, Spencer Birch 'created' just over 1000 of completely bogus charges. These included damage to furniture that did not exist (the furniture didn't exist), marks to walls that had been there when we moved in (we had photo evidence), they claimed that we had left the house dirty, when in fact it was MUCH cleaner than when we first moved in and they also charged us to take items out of the garden (which were out items) which they had taken away prematurely before we had even handed the keys back (and we did not want taking away).
Even the calculations for their bogus charges did not add up and were actually out by over 100. They somehow got our deposit released from the DPS without our signing or approval (which we had to assume means that a signature was forged). It took us 3-4 months to get back our deposit, very unfriendly staff, they never picked up the phone when they saw out numbers, but would pick up if we rang from someone elses number.
In the end we had to visit them in person almost 10 times in order to get back our deposit. And despite the fact that they were lying about their charges etc, they just simply threatened to phone the police when we sat in their office waiting for a response. In the end we did get back most of our deposit, minus a very small amount of money for small genuine damages that we were happy to pay for. We should have phoned the Police on them or made an official complaint to the DPS. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS
