Carlton Estate Agents

I am sharing my experience as tenant in Highbury through Carlton. We dealt with Ally Grist (who should apply for the award of the worst and inhuman estate agent in London). In the past 10 years in London, this was by far the most horrendous experience I had with an estate agent. Firstly, My wife and I had issues with the boiler which was making horrible noise all the day and nigh. Carlton never managed to fix after dozens of visits from their selected plumbers.

The obvious solution was to replace the boiler which Carlton (and the landlord) refused until Islington Environmental Health Services instructed them to do so. More importantly, we have had without any notice scaffolding erected in the front and the private garden of our flat. We raised our concerns on the breach of privacy with Carlton and our landlords.

They both responded that this is common practice and the landlord has the right to do so without providing any notice to us. As our tenancy agreement was due in 2 months, Carlton asked us if we would like to extend which we accepted with few minor conditions (provide a blind to our bedroom windows for privacy issues as the workers were in the back garden).

To our surprise, the landlord responded that he wants to repossess his property. This was a revenge eviction. My wife was 4 month pregnant at that time. We raised our concerns to Tim Carlton who never responded to any of our multiple emails. He showed how a great leader was. We had to contact the Islington council again. The council confirmed multiple breaches from Carlton and the landlord.

They were both sent a letter stating these breaches. Ally was very aggressive throughout this period and threatened us repeatedly. As our priority back then was my wife and baby health we decided not to pursue any legal actions against Carlton and the landlord. We were victims of revenge eviction which was confirmed when the flat was back in the market few weeks after we left.

We were good tenants, we never missed a payment, we never complained, we built good relationships with our neighbours. I had rented via excellent estate agents in the past and had wonderful landlords.

We had an excellent experience with Carltons. Tim was unfailingly responsive, straightforward, sensible and helpful. His advice was spot on, and he helped us navigate the inevitably stressful process very well indeed. We are very grateful and would highly recommend!

Selling a house in London is a long and tedious process that made me realized the important role played by the estate agents. I can not be happier to have chosen Carltons for this process. They are without a doubt the estate agents with the most experience and best customer service in the Islington area. Sara, especially, played a fundamental role in the sale of my house, without her, it would not have been possible. I honestly can not recommend them highly enough.

Tim, Sara & the rest of the team were excellent in helping us find a buyer for our Angel home. In what is a difficult London property market, they found us a local buyer and were always available if we had any questions. Their local knowledge of the area was pivotal in our sale and we would definitely recommend Carlton's for either buying or selling a property in Islington.

| Disappointing Service I'm lowering this score to 1* after Carlton email offered me 50 in value to remove my review. Re: Harecourt Road, N1 The attending agent was entirely unfamiliar with the property and unable to answer questions we had - he relied on the tenant to answer all of these. When he didn't know the answer he made assumptions instead of just saying he'll find out.

We really liked the property and made an offer via email, but didn't hear back. We chased after 4 days. Agent communication was minimal and the agent didn't respond to email. I didn't feel he was relaying our communications onto the Landlord accurately, and there was a breakdown. Overall while the property was great, Carlton's service was not good - we grew tired of liaising with them and gave up on the property.

This is a shame for good tenants/ property owners. We became impatient and frustrated and looked to our second choice property, with Currell, who were quick and efficient and we quickly agreed terms in a pragmatic way.

Carlton estate agent provided excellent service when, in my experience, it is so hard to come by amongst estate agents as a whole. They enabled me to purchase our house taking the stress out of the negotiation and giving me sensible advice at every step of the process. They were courteous, professional, efficient and readily available even outside of office hours. I would recommend them wholeheartedly.

Fantastic service from beginning to end. I felt very looked after by Carlton - they provided expert knowledge and sound advice. Recommend.

Excellent letting and management service for our Islington flat. Ally and Jonathan especially good. Seem genuinely concerned to be helpful and to look after the tenants as well as the landlords. Especially good to have them oversee tradesmen when things need fixing or replacing. Fair price for an excellent service.

Dreadful lettings service. Before and throughout the tenancy, basic levels of customer service were non-existent. Even when we took legal proceedings over issues in our rented accommodation, Carlton didn't take or accept any responsibility. They are wholly responsible for a breakdown in relationship between us and the landlord, which resulted in us cancelling the tenancy and leaving the property.

They couldn't manage their way out of a cardboard box and lettings simply aren't a priority. They will charge you extortionate amounts for anything they possibly can and offer no service at all. And after all that, they will turn the other cheek. I wouldn't rent or list a property with these cowboys if they offered me a million pounds. Rude, unhelpful and don't seem to know what they are doing. Avoid at all costs!

Our family have been renting homes for a number of years, since starting with Carlton 3 years ago we have only good things to say. Home is managed by the agents and they have exemplarily service. Whenever there is a issue, however small the team responds quickly and makes sure the problem is solved. Each year they make sure to have the (required) fire and gas safety check, something that's never been done at other homes.

For myself and our family, knowing we live in a home that is comfortable without issues is something important. Carton Estate Agents have insured we have that level of service and comfort.

I highly recommend Carlton Estate agents. They have been letting for me for five years. They fully manage the let both assuring all certificates are up to date and rental paid on time. They help my tenants if they have any problems no matter how small: washer on a tap to cooker replacement. I have found the Carlton team both courteous and quick to resolve any issues.

Incredibly quick service from the lettings team at Carlton. Having returned home from hospital with a new born baby we were horrified to have no heating and hot water. A plumber attended that same morning and rectified the problem swiftly. 10/10 from the Carlton property management team!

Tim and the team at Carlton made our purchase of an invetment property straight forward. Highly professional with great local knowledge. They have set the bar very high for other agents and as yet no one has come close.

Very bad experience with the lettings department. I had an appointment for a viewing for which I quit work early. Train delays made me worry that I might be a bit late so I called thirty minutes in advance to let them know that I might be five or ten minutes late. I was told that if I was going to be ten or more minutes late I shouldn't bother coming over because they were on a very tight schedule, so I said that I would try to make it in time and if I was going to be ten minutes late I would let them know and try to reschedule.

In the end I arrived three minutes late and the agent had already left site. I called the office numerous times to inform if there was any possibility that the agent would come back. Each time someone would tell me that they would call the agent and let me know. However, every single time they didn't have the courage/decency to call back and let me know.

In the end I waited 15 minutes in front of the property hoping that someone would come back or at least notify me that it wasn't worth waiting for me. In the end I quit work early, wasted 45 minutes of my evening and got nothing but rude/uninterested feedback from the office personnel. Also, after this no one got back to me to rearrange or anything.

Having unsuccessfully tried to sell my house over a very frustrating 6 months period, I was astonished to see my neighbour sell in a two week period. She recommended Tim Carlton the owner of Carlton Estate Agents and as soon as he stepped over the threshold I knew I was in safe hands. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Marion, London

I recently sold my property via Carlton Estate Agents and had an excellent experience. I had been recommended by a colleague who had sold his flat 6 months previously. I have bought and sold many times over the years but never received such a professional service. I would highly recommend.
